Dr. Carl Holowaty is the former Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Director of the U.S. Division of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ. In this role, he is responsible for the management of the medical department; research, development and maintenance of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s underwriting manual; and editing 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s medical newsletter, ReFlections. Dr. Holowaty contributes to 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s educational program through a series of both formal and informal lectures, seminars, and discussions with underwriters. He also works closely with the actuarial and claims departments in order to continually develop tracking systems that evaluate 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s mortality and aid in the analysis of relevant clinical data. This provides 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ clients with the latest mortality and clinical information available.
His more than 20 years of clinical experience and 25 years as a medical director in the life insurance industry enable him to bring real-world experience to his role at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ. Prior to joining 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ, Dr. Holowaty spent nine years in general practice, later serving as Associate Medical Director at Manulife Financial, where he was responsible for case management for life underwriting and claims, disability underwriting and claims, structured settlement and substandard annuity mortality quotes.
In addition to his responsibilities at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ, Dr. Holowaty serves as the Deputy Medical Director of the Longer Life Foundation, a co-sponsored venture between 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ and the renowned Washington University School of Medicine, which funds independent research analyzing human longevity and rates of disease in specific populations. Most recently, he participated in the development of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s successful Older Age Underwriting Initiative.
Dr. Holowaty earned his medical degree and a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of British Columbia. He is a member of business and insurance industry organizations AAIM, CLIMOA and MMDA.
