Summer Learning options 2023

We are excited to offer a variety of summer learning opportunities, with registration ready to open for most students on Monday April 17th at 10am!

Throughout the summer months, we have a number of options for learners of all ages.  So whether you’re looking for a bit more support for your child who has struggled through this past year, a chance for a student to get a head start on upcoming curriculum, or for a way you can continue to add to your own learning, take a look at the offerings below.

Summer Learning through summer school programs

Our middle and secondary programming will be held at New Westminster Secondary School with options for tweens, teens and adults. Elementary options will be held at Lord Kelvin Elementary.

We’re excited to again be offering a range of regular full-credit courses for students who need or want those classes, and shorter non-credit courses that may spark interest or support early exposure to upcoming curriculum for students.

As you review the options that may be available for you or your student to enroll in, please note that the grades listed on courses refer to the grade the student is entering in September 2023.

Also: if the student attends a private or independent school in New Westminster, they are still considered out-of-district, as they are not enrolled in the schools and programs we run. Please use the out-of-district forms to apply.

Middle & Secondary Students

Want to strengthen your child’s grade 7-9 literacy or numeracy basics, and give them a stronger start heading into next year? Looking spark your teen’s imagination with some creative writing support? Or maybe want to see what kind of crazy science experiments can be cooked up both at home and in the lab? Or need a second chance to get the course credit you’ll need for next year’s classes?

Full credit courses will be offered weekdays, from July 4th to August 4th.
Shorter, non-credit courses will be offered weekdays, from July 4th to July 21st.

Registration for the 2023 summer programs will open on April 17th, on a first come, first serve basis. In-district students will be offered priority placement for the first two weeks of the registration window. Applications will be accepted through forms that will be linked at the bottom of the course pages listed in this section of our website.

Elementary Students

We’re excited to be offering a second year of sessions for elementary school students, as we expand our capacity to support students who might need a little extra practice, or to engage those who have keen interest in a particular area of study.

Non-credit, summer learning for K-5 courses will run 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, from July 4th to 14th.

Registration for the 2023 summer learning programs will open on April 17th, on a first come, first serve basis. Our K-5 Summer Learning courses are only being offered to students currently enrolled at one of our schools (students must be in kindergarten now to engage in summer learning). Applications will be accepted through a form link, which will be added to the bottom of the course page for K-5 listed in this section of our website.

Online Learning

When flexibility is key, online learning can be a great solution for students in grades 10-12 or for adult learners. Available 24/7 throughout the school year, the media-rich, teacher-supported class options provide teens and adults the opportunity to learn at their own pace.

What about Summer Learning through our Virtual School?

This year, students needing to take Career Life Education 10  or Career Life Connections 12 will be able to complete those courses through Online Learning, with the courses running from July 4th to August 4th.

Update: All of our Online offerings are now full and closed for new applications.

Check out for more.

Adult Education through the summer

We should all aspire to be lifelong learners. So if you’re an adult who needs to complete or upgrade your high school education, a new Canadian who wants to work on your English language skills or maybe somebody just looking to expand your knowledge, we’d love to learn with you.
